Bihar: Ara. A constable deployed for the security of EVMs in Krishi Bhawan campus of Nawada police station area died after being shot with his own Insas rifle on Saturday evening. The bullet hit him in the head. There is suspicion that the soldier may have committed suicide. His INSAS rifle and shell have been recovered from the spot. The deceased soldier was Hemant Kumar, originally a resident of Mokama in Patna district. He was going to get married next month. However, the reasons for suicide are not yet known. On receiving information about the incident, senior officers including DM Rajkumar, SP Pramod Kumar Yadav, SDM Jyoti Nath Shahdev and ASP Parichay Kumar reached the spot. The police is investigating the case.
three soldiers were on duty
According to the information received, three District Force personnel were put on duty to protect the EVMs kept in Krishi Bhawan. Among them, one jawan is on leave, while the other jawan had gone out to buy vegetables. At the same time, the soldier resident of Mokama closed the door from inside and shot himself in the head. When the fellow soldier returned with the vegetables, he saw that the door was locked from inside. When he peeped through the window, he saw that constable Hemant Kumar had fallen on the ground and blood was scattered. After that the officer was informed by the soldier. Police station incharge Rakesh Kumar Singh immediately reached the spot.
dead body was lying in the room
SP Pramod Kumar Yadav said that around Saturday evening, Nawada police station incharge informed that the dead body of constable Hemant Kumar, resident of Mokama, who was deployed for the security of EVMs kept in Krishi Bhawan, was lying in the room. The room is locked from inside. After looking through the window, it was found that there was a lot of blood spread near the dead body. INSAS rifle lying near the dead body. A shell of INSAS rifle was also lying there. On receiving the information, he himself reached the spot along with the District Officer and other senior officers.
Interrogation of fellow soldiers
As per due process, the room was opened and the incident site was investigated. On asking the constable who was staying with him, it was revealed that he had gone to buy vegetables. Then constable Hemant probably shot himself. SP said that initial investigation has revealed that the jawan fired from his INSAS rifle and shot himself. The entire matter is being investigated. Post mortem of the dead body is being done. The entire process has been videographed. The family members have been informed. The reasons will be known only after investigation and talking to family members.
The soldier was on duty in EVM security since November.
It is being told that Jawan Hemant, resident of Mokama, Patna, had contributed to Bhojpur District Force in the year 2018. Since then he is posted in Bhojpur. Last November, his duty was assigned to the security of EVMs kept in Krishi Bhawan. Since then he was posted in Krishi Bhawan.

Hemant’s marriage was going to happen in April, he was missing for two-three years
Constable Hemant Kumar’s marriage was to take place on 30th April this year. Although he remained quite silent for some days. SP Pramod Kumar Yadav gave this information after interrogating his fellow constable. He told that Hemant was told by his fellow constable that his death was to be on 30th April. Hemant remained quite silent and distressed for the last two-three days. However, the reason for his remaining silent and distressed could not be known. Something will become clear only after talking to family members.
