If the victims of cyber fraud immediately lodge a complaint on the NCCR (National Cyber ​​Crime Reporting) portal or on the call center number 1930 of the Economic Offenses Unit, then the amount withdrawn from their bank account can be put on hold and returned. In March 2023, the Bihar Police has worked to save more than Rs 2.12 crore from the victims in similar cases.

On an average, 870 calls were received on the helpline number every day.

Bihar Police’s ADG (Headquarters) Jitendra Singh Gangwar said that in March 2023, an average of 870 calls were received every day on the cyber crime reporting helpline number. Along with this, a total of 3870 complaints were registered on the NCCR portal. This month, 176 FIRs related to cybercrime were registered in various police stations of the state.

Mostly fraud in the name of online work sitting at home and getting YouTube Facebook likes

The ADG Headquarters said that in the complaints registered in the month of March, a case of cheating has come to the fore by adopting different measures.

  • An attempt was made to cheat Rs 32 lakh from a person from Sheikhpura on the pretext of doing the work of liking YouTube and completing the task.

  • A person from Gopalganj was lured to sell Ashirwad flour at a low price by running an advertisement on Facebook. Under this, by sending a link on the victim’s mobile, ATM card information and PIN code were inserted and Rs 10 lakh was cheated from the account.

  • A person from Patna was duped of Rs 6.15 lakh by cyber criminals on the pretext of working online from home and earning huge profits.

  • A person from Samastipur was duped of Rs 4.18 lakh by cyber criminals by luring them with high benefits and commission for doing online work.

  • A person from Patna was cheated of Rs 9.63 lakh on the pretext of liking the post. Cybercrime Unit succeeded in holding the transferred amount after receiving these complaints on time.

Complaints registered on the portal directly to financial institutions

Gangwar said that the complaints registered on the NCCR portal go directly to the financial organizations, which helps in stopping the amount transferred immediately. This portal and helpline number 1930 are working 24 hours a day. Any person can file a complaint against them. 30 lease lines have been allotted for the helpline, so that there is no complaint of call engagement.
