Bihar News: 17.32 lakh population of Munger district depends on 17 fire brigades

Bihar News: In recent days, the sound of sirens of fire department vehicles has started being heard continuously, because the strong westerly wind blowing in the summer season is giving impetus to the fire. Every year, due to the carelessness of the people in the village, hundreds of houses are burnt, property worth lakhs is damaged, thousands of acres of wheat crop gets burnt in the fields. Now it has started in the district. More than 10 fire incidents have occurred so far this month. The situation is that the responsibility of fire safety of 17 lakh 32 thousand 301 people of the district rests only on 17 big and small fire brigades.

Fire department claims, there is complete preparation to deal with the fire

The fire department claimed that the department is fully prepared to deal with the fire. The fire department operates at the subdivision site in Munger. There are a total of 17 fire engines in the district and all are in working condition. While there are four water tender vehicles with water capacity of 5000 thousand liters in Munger Sadar, there are six fire mix technology vehicles in Nayaramnagar police station, Dharhara, Mufassil, Bariyarpur, Jamalpur police station and headquarters of Sadar subdivision. There are two water tenders in Haveli Kharagpur subdivision, but not a single small fire engine. A demand has been made for a small fire engine for the police station here. There are two water tenders in Tarapur sub-division and three small fire engines in Sangrampur police station, Asganj and Tarapur police station of this sub-division. There are 104 firefighters in the fire department, out of which 48 are fully trained. There are 18 drivers, Assistant District Fire Officer in Munger Sadar and Tarapur and one Sub Officer in Kharagpur. According to the department, other resources including surge operator system, cutter machine, floating pump are available to protect against poisonous smoke in case of fire. All vehicles are fitted with folder stairs. A 150 liter foam tender is available to control incidents of petrol pump and oil fire.

Water is filled in the fire engine from a kilometer away

Munger Sadar Fire Department has shifted to the new building. Hydrant system is installed here, but due to lack of electricity connection and generator set, it is not operational. Due to this, to fill water in all the fire engines in the district headquarters, one has to go to Kasturba Water Works, a kilometer away. The department claims that this problem will be resolved in a week. There are 30 to 40 places marked in the district headquarters, where there is arrangement to fill water in the fire brigade. The department has also got a floating pump, with the help of which water will be lifted from wells, ponds, rivers and drains and filled in the fire engine.

Common citizens are being made aware

To deal with the menace like fire, the fire department is making people aware in a phased manner by conducting mock drills in different areas of the district. During this time, common people are being made aware with a special plan to deal with the fire in inflammable substances like gas cylinder, petrol, diesel. The fire department in urban and rural areas is also taking stock of their preparedness to deal with fire in hotels, restaurants, malls and big shops. Instructions have been given to install fire extinguishers there. Aapda Mitras are already present in every Panchayat in the district, who will be given training in two-three days.

District Fire Officer Anuj Kumar said that the department is fully prepared to deal with incidents like fire. Participation of common people is also necessary in dealing with this. By becoming aware of the common people along with the public representatives of the concerned area, the major devastation caused by this incident can be prevented in time.
