Bihar Election History: Then the Prime Minister would have been from Bihar

Bihar Election History: Patna. This was the general election of 1989. Former Prime Minister Chandrashekhar had reached Maharajganj from Ballia in UP to fight Chulav. Chandrashekhar filed his nomination from Maharajganj on Janata Dal ticket. He had not left Ballia. He was also a candidate from Ballia Lok Sabha seat. When elections were held, Chandrashekhar won from both Ballia and Maharajganj seats. Now he was faced with the challenge of leaving a seat. Someone was saying that Chandrashekhar has an old connection with Ballia, hence he will remain MP from Ballia only.

Maharajganj residents regretted this

Here, the voters of Maharajganj in Bihar were hopeful that Chandrashekhar would accept going to the Lok Sabha from Maharajganj only. The aware voters of Bihar were probably beginning to see the possibility of Chandrashekhar reaching the top of power. Chandrashekhar, who was in a dilemma, finally decided to become an MP from Ballia and resigned from the Maharajganj Lok Sabha seat. Chandrashekhar became the Prime Minister of the country during the tenure of this Lok Sabha. If he had remained MP from Maharajganj Lok Sabha seat, he would have got the post of Prime Minister of Bihar. As Narendra Modi did in 2014 regarding Kashi seat. The people of Maharajganj were sad that even after Chandrashekhar won, they could not become voters of the Prime Minister’s area.

He says that the enthusiasm of the voters in the area was at its peak after Chandrashekhar became the candidate. Chandrashekhar had the image of a national leader. In such a situation, a group of journalists from India and abroad had also reached Maharajganj to cover the elections. Chandrashekhar was famous as the Young Turk. His image had attracted the youth a lot. However, compared to him, Congress candidate Krishna Pratap was also a local leader and his image was also clean.
