Darbhanga submerged due to rain

Darbhanga. The heavy rain on Saturday drenched the entire city. All the streets and neighborhoods were submerged in water. Water accumulated up to two to three feet. Due to overflowing of water, the distinction between drain and road got blurred. The streets and localities were submerged due to the road merging into water. The problems of the residents increased due to rain water entering dozens of houses in the low-lying areas. Also, due to water entering DMCH, the biggest hospital of North Bihar, patients had to face a lot of trouble.

Here, people had to work hard to save their belongings and to remove water from their homes. Due to accumulation of two to three feet of water, drivers were seen pushing the vehicles out of the water which were stuck. Waterlogging also increased the problems of those making a living on the footpaths. Since it was Saturday, school children were seen getting drenched in rain water and facing difficulties in going home amidst the water accumulated on the road. The city’s electricity supply system also collapsed due to the rain coupled with the wind. In some places the power supply remained disrupted for one and a half hours and in some places for three hours.

Due to water entering the emergency department of DMCH, the problems of doctors, staff, patients and their families have increased significantly. Due to water entering the emergency department room, doctors and staff are forced to stand in dirty water and treat the patient. The family members of the patient are sitting with their legs raised due to water entering the DCW of the surgical department located in the emergency department. If the rain does not stop, water will enter other wards of DMCH also.

Baiju Chaupal, who came to get his family treated, said that due to the rain since morning, water has entered the room. Due to which our problems have increased a lot. Due to water entering the room, we are forced to sit with our legs raised. Due to water entering the room, slippers, needles and other surgical items are floating in water. He said that the biggest problem has become that now where will we eat and sleep. He said that the government should think about this situation.

Randhir, who came from Dhanusha district of Nepal for treatment of his relative, said that due to ill health of our brother-in-law’s son, he was referred to DMCH for better treatment. But after coming here, we are facing a lot of problems. There is a severe lack of system here. Water has entered the emergency department. We do not have this type of system in Nepal. The government here should fix this system.

It rained heavily from around 11 am to 2.30 pm. Before this, it was raining intermittently. Due to rain water, most of the roads and drains of the locality remained submerged in water. Water entered even the houses. The family members remained busy in collecting water. Men, women, elderly and children kept collecting water from their homes with the help of utensils. At some places, people kept struggling to remove water with the help of motor.

However, due to broken electricity system and motor being stopped, people had to resort to utensils to collect water. Lakshmisagar, Katrahiya, JP Chowk to Vidhapati Chowk route, Bira, Sundarpur, Parmeshwar Chowk to Bapu Chowk route, Patel Chowk, Azamnagar, Kadirabad, Darbhanga Tower, Corporation Office Road and Nagar Bhawan Chowringhee, CM Science College Complex, Bhagwandas Mohalla, Jethiyahi, Dozens of localities like Ramjanaki Mandir Road, Bangali Tola, Balbhadrapur, Katrahiya Urdu, Shubhankarpur, Kathalbari Sindhi Tola, Chhapki etc. remained submerged.

People are apprehensive about the time taken for water to drain out after the rain stops. In case of rain, the problem of drains overflowing and roads getting submerged in water and rain water entering houses is worrying.

The torrential rain coupled with the wind also affected the uninterrupted power supply. The problem remained due to line break down at some places and tree branches coming in contact with the 33 KVA line. Till the time of writing the news, the power supply remained halted from around 1.15 pm due to the 33 KVA line coming from Gangwada till Lakshmisagar sub-centre of the city coming in contact with tree branches. Bela’s Shivdhara and Areaboard’s tower feeders were broken down. The situation of feeders connected to other sub-stations was also similar.
