Bihar: Children’s course book sold for a kilo in junk, a dozen sacks seized

In Bihar’s Purnia and Rohtas, books given free of cost to students in government schools were sold at scrap prices in scrap shops. K.Haat police recovered a large number of books and diaries from a scrap shop near Donar Chowk in the city. All the books recovered are from classes one to three of the current session 2023-24. 12 bundles of books and 425 pieces of diaries and other study materials from Purnia and Rohtas districts have been seized from the junk shop. In this case, two people including the scrap shopkeeper have been arrested. Kehat Police Station President Anil Kumar Singh said that an FIR has been registered on the application of BEO Sangeeta Kumari. The arrested scrap dealer and book seller is being sent to jail. The number of books packed in the sack was so much that the police had to order a tractor to bring them to the police station. Seven bundles of class one books of Purnia, Rohtas district have been found in these seized text material. There are 40 books in a bundle. Other material includes 445 diaries and other books from classes one to five.

Purnia’s former BEO Sangeeta Kumari told that the books distributed free of cost in government schools have been recovered by the police from the scrap shop. All the books are of the current session. How the books reached the scrap shop is a matter of investigation. Most of the books are of class one. Action has been initiated on this incident. The accused will be sent to jail.

All the books were sold for seven thousand rupees

The arrested scrap dealer Ashfaq is a resident of Chimni Bazar. On the tip of the shopkeeper, the police also arrested the book seller Mo Shakeel on the spot. Arrested Shakeel is the assistant of BRC of Kenagar block. The shopkeeper told that Shakeel had sold him the books in the trash. For this he was paid seven thousand rupees. Shakeel had told him that all the books had expired. On Saturday he sold all the books at scrap rate.
