Bihar: Beware of adulterated sweets on Diwali! There may be adulteration, samples are being raided and sent to labs

Nawada. Diwalika festival will be celebrated on 12th November this year. Along with worshiping Ganesha-Lakshmi on Diwali, there is also a tradition of giving sweets as gifts. In such a situation, a large number of orders have started coming in renowned shops regarding Diwali. The consignment of Khowa has started reaching Nawada for preparing the goods. It is estimated that there will be a business of sweets worth crores of rupees in this festival of lights. If the demand for sweets is high, many businessmen may do adulteration to take advantage of the opportunity. This affects people’s health. Adulterators do this to earn more profit with less capital. Regarding this, the Food and Safety Department raided various sweet shops in Nawada on Wednesday. Where many samples were collected from sweet shops and sent for laboratory testing. If the report comes negative in the laboratory test of the collected samples, then action will be taken against the shopkeepers from whose places the samples were collected.

The food inspector along with his team collected samples from many shops of the city on Wednesday to check the quality of sweets. During this, he also gave many instructions to the customers. The food inspector said that buying adulterated sweets can be avoided. In this regard, Food Inspector Mukesh Kashyap said that keeping in mind the festival of Diwali, a total of five food establishments located in Nawada city were inspected on Wednesday, November 8. During this period, samples of 11 suspicious food items have been collected.

The team of Food and Safety Department first inspected the establishment of Sardar Sweets, Par Nawada, Near Rajauli Bus Stand of the city. During inspection, samples of suspicious peda, khova barfi and gram flour laddu were collected from there. After this the team reached Arvind Kumar Gupta’s establishment located on Kalali Road where the team collected samples of Soan Papdi, Doda Barfi and Bundi Dana. The team also collected samples from Cake Bakery at Cake My Day, Hanuman Complex Main Road. Samples of cashew barfi and milk cake were taken from Hotel Manpasand Prasad Vigha and samples of gum laddu and ghee barfi were taken from Pooja Sweets government bus stand. Six legal and five survey samples were taken from all these establishments. Which is being sent to the laboratory for chemical testing. After receiving the investigation report, action will be taken under the Food Safety and Standards Act 2006 Rules 2011 on the basis of the investigation report.

Synthetic khova, banned colors and essence are used extensively in sweets during Diwali. For this, synthetic Khowa is being brought in lots from outside the district. Even at the local level, milk is being procured from places like Sheikhpura, Warisaliganj, Kasichak etc., which has a bad effect on health. More than the big shops in the city, during Diwali, small shopkeepers set up roadside stalls and sell all kinds of sweets. It contains many such sweets which can cause people to fall ill after eating them. In such a situation, customers should buy Diwali sweets from reputed shops only.

In the sweet shops in the market, Motichoor laddus are being sold for Rs 300 to Rs 500 per kg, cashew barfi for Rs 1000 per kg. On Diwali, gift items and sweets will be available ranging from Rs 600 per packet to Rs 6000 per packet. Diwali special sweets Gold sweets are being sold for Rs 12,000 per kg. Motichoor laddus made from pure ghee are being sold at Rs 500 per kg.

Making Motichoor laddus has special significance during Diwali. On Diwali, we worship Goddess Lakshmi and Lord Ganesha and they like Motichoor laddus very much. To make Motichoor Laddus, gram flour, desi ghee, sugar and sweet yellow color are required. Food officers come to these sweet shops during Durga Puja and Diwali and take samples of sweets in the name of testing them, but till date, no information is available about what is the decision after taking the samples. In such a situation, people who are fond of sweets should think carefully and buy sweets only after going to good shops.
