Bihar: 6 percent increase in road accidents due to the habit of overtaking

Bihar: Patna. After the improvement of roads in Bihar, the speed of vehicles has also increased. At the same time, accidents on roads due to overtaking have increased by about six percent by March 2024 compared to 2021. According to the Transport Department, in the last three years, most of the total road accidents are due to overtaking. In the departmental review, reports received from the districts have found that there has been a six percent increase in accidents due to overtaking till March 2024 as compared to 2021.

Department asked for report from districts

According to the data released from the Transport Department, it has increased to three percent in 2021, four percent in 2022-23 and six percent in March 2024. After this report, the department has instructed all the districts to send reports to the department every month regarding the action taken in the overtake case. Also, a complete report should be made regarding what steps have been taken in the districts to ensure that vehicles do not overtake.

There will be strictness on overtaking vehicles

The department has instructed all the districts to take strict action against overtaking vehicles. All traffic police including DTO, MVI have been given the responsibility to be strict. Under his leadership, special teams will be formed in all the districts and action will be taken against the vehicles. At the same time, vehicles that repeatedly overtake should be confiscated. Vehicle owners should be trained in traffic rules so that they do not overtake while driving again.

There will be a separate team for investigation on the highway

The department has instructed the districts to form separate special teams on all highways and investigate and impose fines on overtaking vehicles. Fines should be imposed on overtaking and speeding vehicles with the help of speed guns and cameras on the highway. It has also been said to increase surveillance on the city roads.
