6.73% reduction in average price of medicines
According to a report in the news agency Bhasha, the government has fixed the maximum price limit of most of the medicines included in the National List of Essential Medicines (NLEM), due to which the prices of 651 medicines have come down by an average of 6.73 per cent since April. The National Pharmaceutical Pricing Authority (NPPA) has given this information through a tweet on Monday that as per the provisions of the Drugs Price Control Order-2013, permission has been given to increase the prices of essential medicines linked to the Wholesale Price Index (WPI) from April 1 every year. She goes. The NPPA tweeted that the government has so far been able to fix the maximum price of 651 out of the total 870 medicines listed in the NLEM.
As per the provisions of the Drugs Price Control Order (DPCO) 2013, it is permitted to increase the prices of essential drugs linked to the Wholesale Price Index (WPI) from 1st April every year.

Price cut from April 1
The Ministry of Health had amended the NLEM in September 2022 and now a total of 870 medicines come under its ambit. NPPA says that by fixing the maximum price of 651 essential medicines, their average price has come down by 16.62 percent. He said in the statement that due to this, 651 medicines whose prices were to increase by 12.12 per cent, have decreased by 6.73 per cent since April 1.
Consumers will get benefit
The NPPA said that despite an increase of 12.12 per cent in the prices of medicines on the basis of Wholesale Price Index (WPI), consumers will get the benefit of reduction in prices. The NPPA had said on March 25 that the annual change in WPI for 2022 is 12.12 per cent.
