Ranchi, Shakeel Akhtar:

During investigation, ED found that contractors Mahendra Gop and Rajesh Kumar had paid a total of Rs 6.38 crore as commission to Birendra Ram. On the other hand, Birendra Ram had also taken Rs 20 lakh from Gop for his son Aryan Ankush to study abroad (Scotland). In this way, he has spent Rs 1.25 crore on his son’s education. The contractor Atikul Ansari had collected a commission of Rs 47.45 lakh for Birendra Ram. Idi found the account related to this in Birendra Ram’s mobile phone. Along with this, phrases such as the money mixed in the codeword in the phone and 14 lakh diyas tied in a red cloth to the file have been used.

ED had received several slips related to transactions from Birendra Ram’s house during the raid. MG was written on one of these slips and the account was written below it. Apart from this, a detail of the account book was found from his mobile. It was written ‘money taken’. It was written by contractor Atikul Ansari. During interrogation, Birendra Ram told the meaning of ‘MG’ was Mahendra Gop.

Mahendra Gope is associated with Jamshedpur’s company M/s Lords Infra Private Limited. When asked about the account written in the name of Mahendra Gope, Birender Ram had said that he had taken a loan of Rs 2.40 crore from Gope to buy land in Delhi. Out of this, he has returned only Rs 20 lakh to Gop. When Mahendra Gop was questioned in this matter, he denied giving loan to Birendra Ram. He had told ED that Birendra Ram used to keep the commission money with him. He has given Rs 4.5 crore to the person authorized by Birendra Ram on November 22 and January 2023.

Apart from this, Birendra’s son Aryan was given 20 lakh rupees for his studies abroad. ED found in the investigation that Birendra Ram had sent this Rs 4.5 crore to Delhi through hawala. Later this amount was deposited in the account of his father Genda Ram and the property was bought from him. In the statement given to ED in connection with the slip titled ‘Money received from a mobile’ of Birendra Ram, he accepted that this amount was of commission. Contractor Atikul Ansari collects commission for it. He has collected Rs 47.45 lakh from the receipt and has written the complete account.

During the ED’s raid, two vehicles with VIP numbers (1000) were found from Birendra Ram’s house. Rajesh Kumar was questioned in connection with these vehicles. Rajesh Kumar admitted that he is the director of M/s Rajesh Construction and M/s Parmanand Construction. In the year 2015, Birendra Ram had given tender worth Rs 62 crore to these companies. Rs 1.88 crore was paid as commission at the rate of three per cent to Birender Ram.

Rajesh said in his statement that both the expensive vehicles were given on the demand of Birendra Ram. But he was not asked to return it. ED also interrogated this contractor in view of the WhatsApp chat between Birendra Ram and contractor Anoop Kumar Rai. Anoop admitted that he is a partner of M/s Royal Engineering. Birendra Ram had given a contract worth Rs 1.78 crore to his company. Instead, Rs 14 lakh has been paid as commission. Rai also told that Birendra Ram used to demand commission at the rate of 14 per cent from him.
