Three mobile phones, two passbooks, two ATM cards and six lakh rupees in cash seized – Made a friend by giving advantage in mobile game, emptied the account after winning his trust
Bhubaneswar. A person was arrested from Bhubaneswar on charges of defrauding a retired Air Force officer of Rs 35 lakh. A senior police officer gave this information. He said that on October 19, based on the complaint lodged by the former officer, the accused was detained from his residence in Pattamundai area of Kendrapara district and taken to Bhubaneswar for questioning.
Bhubaneswar Zone-5 Assistant Commissioner of Police (ACP) Gautam Kishan said on Monday that the accused was arrested after interrogation. The complainant alleged that Rs 35 lakh was withdrawn from his bank accounts through online transactions between June and September this year. The former Air Force officer came in contact with the complainant in July and later they became friends. The ACP said that the complainant often lost money while playing online games. The accused, who holds a diploma in data science, gave them a slight advantage (in the online game). After winning the trust, the accused came to know the bank account details of the former officer. He said that the accused made unauthorized transactions from two bank accounts of the complainant and transferred Rs 35 lakh to his accounts in Karnataka and Assam. Police have seized three mobile phones, two passbooks, two ATM cards and Rs 6 lakh in cash from the accused.
