Bhagalpur: Two ambulances, which were lying broken for years in the Sadar Hospital premises, caught fire at 11.30 am on Monday. A very strong flame was rising from the burning vehicles. Due to this, the entire Sadar Hospital complex and Ghantaghar Chowk was covered with a cloud of black smoke. There was an atmosphere of panic among the common people due to the smoke spread all around.
It took one and a half hours to control the fire
The fire department was informed about the fire. The work of extinguishing the fire started from 12 o’clock with two fire engines. The fire was brought under control after hard work for one and a half hours. During this time, a fire vehicle got stuck in the jam near Kachari Chowk. Till then the work of extinguishing the fire continued by removing the pipe from a vehicle. Half an hour later, another vehicle also reached near the incident site. Both the vehicles were parked on the road near Shaheed Bhagat Singh Chowk.

A huge crowd gathered on the road to see the bright flame rising from the hospital premises. There was a jam like situation on the road also. Traffic DSP Ashish Singh, fire department personnel Rohini Maya, Asmita and Subodh Kumar and other personnel played a major role in extinguishing the fire. Sadar Hospital in-charge Dr. Raju and hospital manager Ashutosh Kumar were present during the rescue.
Fire spread in dry leaves due to cigarette spark
Three abandoned ambulances were standing near the incident site for years. An ambulance was completely burnt to ashes. The front part of the second ambulance was burnt. The fire department personnel saved the third ambulance from burning. Let us tell you that match sticks, cigarette boxes and other drug wrappers were thrown on the seats of two ambulances.
There is a lot of matchsticks in the damaged vehicles, it seems like a den of drug addicts.
Apprehensions were expressed that there used to be a gathering of drug addicts in these ambulances kept at the very corner of the hospital. The fire started from a cigarette spark. Dry leaves of trees were scattered around the ambulance. This helped the fire to spread. Here, health workers said that it is necessary to auction the broken ambulances. On this matter, Sadar Hospital in-charge said that this process will be completed by the Civil Surgeon office. This is not hospital property.
