Bathinda Military Station Firing: Search continues for the assailant who killed the jawans, doubt on eyewitness’s claim

Punjab The search is on for the attackers of Wednesday’s firing at the Bathinda military base. Four army soldiers were killed in this incident of firing. Significantly, the firing took place at the Bathinda military base at around 4.30 am on Wednesday near the barrack behind the mess in the artillery unit, in which four soldiers were killed. At the time of the incident, the four soldiers were sleeping, whose age was between 24 to 25 years.

Doubt on eyewitness’s claim

According to the police FIR, after the firing, a jawan saw two unidentified men in white kurta pyjamas coming out of the barrack. Both their faces and heads were covered with cloth. One of them was followed by INSAS rifle and the other was followed by an axe. However, the police is looking at the eyewitness’s claim with suspicion. This is because no mark of attack with a sharp edged weapon has been found in the post-mortem. The post-mortem of the dead bodies of the jawans was done on Wednesday evening.

These soldiers died in the firing

The suspects, according to the FIR, were of medium height and on seeing the jawan, moved towards a wooded area near the barrack. After this, two army officers went to the barracks and in one room Sagar Banni (25) and Yogesh Kumar J. (24) lying in a pool of blood while Kamlesh R. (24) and Santosh M Nagral (25) were found dead. There were marks of bullets on his body.

Firing on jawans with INSAS rifle

It is suspected that an INSAS rifle and 28 bullets, which went missing this week, were used in the firing. Police said that 19 blanks of INSAS bullet were recovered from the spot. The Bathinda military base is one of the largest military bases in the country and houses a large number of operational units of the force.
