However, Dhanbad is the only city in this which is not a part of non-attainment city. The average level of PM 2.5 in Dhanbad in the year 2021 was 55.86 micro grams per cubic meter.

PM 2.5 concern for Dhanbad

Till recently, Dhanbad was known for the pollution caused by the excessive amount of PM 10 present in the air. Till 2020, Dhanbad was included in the top 10 cities of the country in the list of cities polluted due to PM 10. After this, enough work was done under the National Clean Air Program to remove Dhanbad from this list. Today, the level of PM 10 in any area of ​​Dhanbad is less than the prescribed standard of 100 micrograms per cubic meter.

Today, the condition of Dhanbad in this matter is better than Ranchi and Jamshedpur. But during this time PM 2.5 has become a cause of concern for Dhanbad. It has now been consistently above 60 micrograms per cubic metre. The PM 2.5 level was recorded at 64.62 at Luby Circular Road in the city, 61.38 near IIT ISM, 60.26 at Kusum Vihar and 63.64 near Birsa Munda Park at 7 pm on Sunday. This is much higher than the standard of 10 micrograms per cubic meter set by the Central Pollution Control Board.
