Auto market bombed in August: sales of these companies including Maruti-Mahindra increased, Tata’s soft

New Delhi : In India, the automotive market continued to boom in vehicle sales during the month of August. In the month of August, which passed during the month of Sawan, the country’s automobile manufacturer Maruti-Suzuki made a record sale of more than 1.89 lakh units, while the sales of Mahindra vehicles registered an increase of about 19 percent. At the same time, Hyundai Motor sold about 71,435 units during this one month. However, a slight decline has been recorded in the sales of Tata Motors vehicles.

Maruti Suzuki records sales of 1,89,082 units

Maruti Suzuki sold 1,89,082 vehicles in August. This is the highest sales ever in a single month. Last month, the company shipped 14 per cent more units to the dealers on an annual basis in August. In August 2022, it had shipped 1,65,173 units. According to a statement released on Thursday by Maruti Suzuki India Limited (MSIL), domestic sales of total passenger vehicles increased by 16 per cent to 1,56,114 units from 1,34,166 units in August 2022. However, sales of small cars like Alto, S-Presso declined to 12,209 units as against 22,162 units in August 2022. At the same time, 72,451 units of compact cars like Baleno, Celerio, Dezire, Ignis and Swift were sold, which was 71,557 units in August 2022. Multi-utility vehicles like Brezza, Ertiga, Frontex, Grand Vitara, Jimny and XL6 sold 58,746 units in August, compared to 26,932 units in August last year. MSIL said that its exports in August stood at 24,614 units, which was 21,481 units in the same month last year.

Mahindra’s sales registered a growth of 19 percent

At the same time, the sales of Mahindra & Mahindra (M&M) vehicles increased by 19 per cent year-on-year to 70,350 units in August. The company had sold 59,049 units in August 2022. Domestic sales of M&Ms rose 25 per cent to 37,270 units in August. It was 29,852 units in the same month last year. The Mumbai-based auto major’s passenger vehicle sales in the domestic market grew by 25 per cent to 37,270 units last month. Vijay Nakra, President, Automotive Division, M&M Limited, said that we recorded our highest ever SUV domestic sales of 37,270 units with a growth of 26 per cent in a month. The company’s exports declined by 17 percent on annual basis in August to 2,423 units.

Hyundai Motor sold 71,435 units

Apart from this, Hyundai Motor India’s wholesale sales in August increased by 15 percent year-on-year to 71,435 units. The automobile manufacturer had shipped 62,210 units to its dealers in August 2022. According to a statement issued by the South Korean company, domestic sales increased by nine percent to 53,830 units last month, compared to 49,510 units in the same period a year ago. According to the statement, exports increased by 39 percent to 17,605 units last month, which was 12,700 units in August 2022. Tarun Garg, Chief Operating Officer, Hyundai Motor India, said the company’s sales number of 71,435 units reflects the growing acceptance of our products in both the domestic and export markets.

MG Motor India’s retail sales up nine percent

MG Motor India’s retail sales in August stood at 4,185 units with a growth of nine percent on an annual basis. The automaker had sold 3,823 units in August 2022. According to a statement issued by the company, the carmaker is preparing to further increase the existing growth in view of the upcoming festivals. The company is also preparing to bring ‘Black Edition’ of its mid-size SUV Aster.

Toyota registers record sales of 22,910 units

Toyota Kirloskar Motor (TKM) recorded highest-ever monthly sales in August with 22,910 units. Last month, the company’s total supply to dealers increased by 53 percent to 22,910 units, while in August 2022 this figure was 14,959 units. In the month under review, the company’s domestic wholesale sales stood at 20,970 units, while exports stood at 1,940 units. Atul Sood, vice president (sales and strategic marketing), TKM, said in a statement that the strong sales and increased demand reflect the continuously increasing interest of customers towards the brand. Strong demand for Toyota Urban Cruiser Highrider and Innova High Cross continues.

Bajaj Auto sales down 15 percent in August

Bajaj Auto’s total sales in August declined by 15 percent year-on-year to 3,41,648 units. The company had sold 4,01,595 units in August 2022. According to a statement issued by Bajaj Auto Limited, total domestic sales fell 20 percent to 2,05,100 units last month compared to 2,56,755 units sold in August 2022. Total vehicle exports in August fell six per cent year-on-year to 1,36,548 units as against 1,44,840 units in the same period a year ago. Last month, total sales of two-wheelers declined by 20 percent to 2,85,031 units, which was 3,55,625 units in August 2022. However, exports of two-wheelers increased by two percent to 1,24,211 units in August 2023, which was 1,21,787 units in the same month last year.

Tata Motors’ vehicle sales registered a slight decline

However, Tata Motors’ total sales declined marginally to 78,010 units in August on a year-on-year basis. The company had sold 78,843 units in August 2022. Tata Motors informed the stock market that the company’s domestic sales stood at 76,261 units in August with a slight decline on an annual basis. In August 2022 it was 76,479 units. Passenger vehicle sales in the company’s domestic market declined by 3.5 per cent to 45,513 units as against 47,166 units in the same month last year. Total commercial vehicle sales increased by 1.9 percent to 32,077 units from 31,492 units in August 2022. Tata Motors said passenger electric vehicle sales including international markets grew 54.9 per cent to 6,236 units as against 4,026 units in the same month a year ago.
