We are looking at systemic problems, not individual issues: Supreme Court

While hearing the petitions filed demanding probe into the murder of mafia Atiq Ahmed and his brother Ashraf, the Supreme Court said that it would look into systemic problems and not individual issues in the present case. The apex court was hearing two petitions. A petition was filed by advocate Vishal Tiwari, seeking formation of an independent committee to investigate. Atiq’s sister Ayesha Noori had filed another petition demanding a court-monitored probe into the murder.

State government filed report

At the same time, the State of Uttar Pradesh informed the court that it has filed a detailed status report in the matter and the court can peruse the same. After this, the court adjourned the matter till July 14. In an affidavit filed before the court, the state has said that the government is probing the security lapse, leaving no stone unturned. The court has also been informed by the state that measures for police reform and modernization are being taken across the state.

Atiq’s sister had made this demand

Atiq’s sister Ayesha Noori has claimed in her petition that the police officers are getting full support from the UP government. He has also sought protection for his family members from alleged encounters. He has also claimed that after the Raju Pal murder case, the UP government has started a vendetta against his family.
