Bareilly : An FIR has been registered against SP MLA and former minister Shahjil Islam from Bhojipura assembly of Bareilly, Uttar Pradesh at Bareilly Junction GRP police station on the complaint of the driver on Sunday. Police took action against the MLA under assault and SC ST Act. CO GRP Devi Dayal will investigate this matter. However, MLA Shahjil Islam has denied assaulting the driver. They say that the driver was under the influence of alcohol. There was a possibility of an accident, so he removed the driver and drove the car himself.
Dharmendra Kumar, resident of Rajendra Nagar locality of Premnagar police station area of the city, drives the car of SP MLA Shahjeel Islam. He says that late on Friday night he had gone to Bareilly Junction to pick up the SP MLA. Due to the train being late, driver Dharmendra kept waiting in the car at night. MLA Shahjeel reached Islam Junction at 6 am on Saturday morning. Along with scolding the car for being dirty, he also got angry and used abusive language. The driver met the SSP in this matter. After this the Kotwali police were given instructions to investigate.
But this case was of Bareilly Junction Circulating Area. Due to which it was sent to Bareilly Junction Government Railway Police (GRP) police station. An FIR has been registered in the GRP police station against SP’s Bhojipura MLA Shahjil Islam under sections of assault, abuse and SC/ST. CO GRP will investigate this matter.
Case should be registered after investigation: MLA
SP MLA Shahjil Islam said that the police should have filed a case in the matter after investigation. Checking the CCTV cameras will reveal who is telling the truth and who is lying. I still stand by what I said from the first day that the driver was under the influence of alcohol. That’s why I came driving myself along with the gunner and workers.
Bareilly Junction GRP Inspector Ajit Pratap Singh said that on the basis of the complaint letter, an FIR has been registered against SP MLA Shahjeel Islam. CCTV footage has been viewed. Through this we could get information about the incident. Higher officials have been informed about the action.
