Assam Class 10th, 12th Boards Merger: The Assam government on Wednesday proposed to create a new board by merging the state boards of classes 10th and 12th to manage secondary education. The Assam government introduced ‘Assam State Board of School Education Bill, 2024’ in the Assembly to create a new board to control the education system up to class 12 in the state.

According to the Bill, the Assam Board of Secondary Education, Assam (SEBA) and Assam Higher Secondary Education Council (AHSEC) will be merged to form a new board ‘Assam State School Education Board’ (ASSEB). According to the bill, this bill has been brought to regulate, supervise and develop secondary education in the state by merging the existing Assam Board of Secondary Education and Assam Council of Higher Secondary Education.

ASSEB will be headed by a chairman nominated by the government. There will be a Vice President for each division under him and he will be nominated by the Government. The new board will have a total of 21 members, whose tenure will be three years and can be renewed for the same period. The decision of this merger was taken in the state cabinet meeting chaired by Chief Minister Himanta Vishwa Sharma in November last year.
