According to media reports, Armenia has shown its interest in Iran’s Chabahar port. Armenia is taking steps forward and negotiating for this. Armenia aims to reach out to India and other Asian countries. In such a situation, if it joins Chabahar port, then its goal will be easily achieved.
According to the report of Economic Times i.e. ET, the South Caucasian country is exploring the possibility of early connectivity between the International North-South Transport Corridor (INSTC) and Chabahar Port for uninterrupted connectivity. Armenia’s Deputy Foreign Minister Mnatsakan Safaryan gave information about the matter in a conversation with ET.
Mnatsakan Safaryan said that the Armenian delegation recently held a meeting on the use of Chabahar port. This meeting took place in the business city Mumbai. He said that our country is in talks to join the port. Connectivity between Chabahar Port and INSTC is expected to be completed soon.
Armenia’s Deputy Foreign Minister further said that it seems that this link will be completed within a year. Let us tell you that this news has come at a time when some time ago the news of India delivering arms consignment to Armenia via Iran had made headlines. It was said in the media report that last year India had approved the order related to an important deal of missiles, rockets and ammunition to Armenia.
With Armenia’s involvement in Chabahar port, we may see a triumvirate. This trio will be special for all three countries i.e. India, Iran and Armenia. During a meeting in Armenia’s capital, Yerevan, in the month of April this year, the three sides talked about economic projects and regional communication channels.
If Armenia succeeds in joining Chabahar port, then Pakistan’s problems may increase. Actually Pakistan is close to Azerbaijan. Armenia and Azerbaijan are each other’s sworn enemies. Not only this, Pakistan also wants better relations with Iran. In such a situation, he would never want Armenia to enter Chabahar Port in any way.
