Appeal to reconsider the decision to remove Mithilesh Kumar Mishra from investigation in money laundering case

Enforcement Directorate (ED) Assistant Director Mithilesh Kumar Mishra on Thursday appealed to a single judge bench of Justice Amrita Sinha of the Calcutta High Court to reconsider its earlier decision of removing him from the investigation into a money laundering case in the state. Shri Mishra’s appeal is that even if he is replaced as the head of investigation in the crores of rupees cash for school jobs case in the state, other money laundering cases in the state should not be taken away from him.

Dissatisfaction was expressed on the manner of investigation conducted by the ED officer.

It is noteworthy that in her order of September 29, Justice Amrita Sinha had indicated that not a single case related to money laundering in West Bengal would be handed over to Mithilesh Kumar Mishra. Justice Amrita Sinha said that the court has lost confidence in the efficiency of the concerned ED officer in carrying forward the smooth progress of the investigation in the school job case. The judge recently expressed dissatisfaction over the manner in which the investigation was conducted by the ED officer and also asked him if he wanted relief from the investigation.

Stis Amrita Sinha asked whether this is a post office

It is notable that Mr Mishra also faced the ire of Justice Sinha for providing incomplete information to the court about a corporate entity, whose name had cropped up during the investigation by central agencies in the school job case. Justice Amrita Sinha asked whether it is a post office that you will deposit whatever you have received from someone without checking the details? When will you reach the end of the tunnel?
