Three accused of gang rape of a B.Tech student in IIT BHU, Varanasi have been arrested. During checking late on Saturday night, the police arrested Kunal Pandey of Brij Enclave Colony Sunderpur and Anand alias Abhishek Chauhan and Saksham Patel of Jivadhipur Bajardiha along with the bullet used in the crime. The accused had raped a B.Tech student who was going with a friend to the IIT BHU campus at around 1.30 am on November 1. Not only this, three youths had also made videos of the girl student taking off her clothes at gunpoint. After this, there were huge protests in the campus for several days. After the incident, on the morning of 2 November, the student had filed a complaint at Lanka police station. As soon as the students came to know about the incident, around 2500 students protested in front of Rajputana Hostel. After this the wind of protest spread throughout the campus. Within no time a large number of students joined the protest. The students had closed the entire campus in protest. Research work in class and lab was also stopped. Internet service was stopped in the entire campus.
Accused caught with bike after 60 days
It is noteworthy that a B.Tech student in the Department of Mathematical Engineering at IIT BHU had left the New Girls Hostel for outing at around 1.30 am on November 1 after midnight. When she reached Gandhi Smriti Hostel intersection in the campus, she found her friend there. Both of them had reached near Karman Veer Baba temple when three youths riding bullets came from behind and stopped the student and her friend. After some time the friend was sent away from there. In the complaint given by the student to the police, it is written that the youth gagged her and took her to a corner. First they kissed and then removed their clothes and made a video and photo also. After screaming, those youth also threatened to kill. Not only this, those youth also took the phone and kept me for about 10-15 minutes and then left me. Somehow I ran to save my life and heard the sound of the bike. After about two months, the police has achieved a big success. Different police teams were scanning the footage of more than 170 CC cameras installed on the BHU IIT campus, from Hyderabad Gate to Bypass and Karaundi Marg, from BHU Main Gate to Lanka-Ravidas Gate road. Meanwhile, a joint team of Crime Branch and Lanka police station interrogated a young man and his friend, resident of Susuwahi area, in custody.
