Aligarh: IN-SPACe approves AMU’s first satellite project in the name of Sir Syed, know its features

Aligarh News: Indian National Space Promotion and Authorization Center (IN-SPACe), functioning under the Department of Space, Government of India, has approved the proposal for development of SS AMU SAT, the first satellite program of Aligarh Muslim University. It will be named after its founder Sir Syed Ahmed Khan. SS AMU SAT is a nanosatellite project, which was launched by AMU Robo Club in November 2021. This satellite is a 3U CubeSat, which has multiple purposes. This includes study of economic development in India’s poorest districts using satellite imagery and implementation of in-house developed image compression technology for faster multimedia transmission. Apart from these, the satellite will also test various satellite sub-systems. Which have been made at the local level only.

IN-SPACe will monitor

The project proposal for approval, registration, frequency allocation and launch of SS AMU SAT was submitted to IN-SPACe in January 2023. In September 2023, the Student Satellite Committee under the chairmanship of Dr. PK Jain, Director, IN-SPACe, reviewed the design and approved the proposal with the condition that all aspects of SS AMU SAT, from development to its launch in low Earth orbit, Will sign an MoU with IN-SPACe to monitor the activities.

AMU alumni working with ISRO also joined

The project is headed by Professor M.M., Principal of Zakir Hussain College of Engineering and Technology. Professor Ekram Khan is the Chairman of the Department of Electronics Engineering under the leadership of Sufiyan Baig. The team of students involved in the development of the project is being led by Purti Varshney and Dr. C.A. Guidance is being provided by Prabhakar (Former Project Director, ISRO) and Engineer Faraz Ahmed (Alumnus of 2013 batch). The project is receiving technical support from AMU alumni working with ISRO and many industrial experts from across the world. The team of students included Kulsoom Ilyas, Anant Aggarwal, Tarun Singh, Rabia, Mohammad Ali, Ilma Shah, Ahsan Wasim, Azhaan Kamil, Tanu Attri, Mohammad Arkam, Kanuj Chitranshu, Munira Sultan, Atifa Saeed, Kanika, Asif Ali, Syed Muhammad Suhaib. , Azam, Ghulam Farid, Samad, Varun Yadav, Mudassir Ali, Tareem Fatima, Tarannum Zafar, Yashra, Mansha and Binish Kashif. The launch of this project is tentatively proposed for 6 months.

Promoting new technology and research in the field of space
