Air India: DGCA imposed heavy fine on Air India

Air India: Tata Group (Tata Group) of Air India before Holi to the Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGCA) has given a big shock. It is being told that DGCA has imposed a fine of Rs 80 lakh on Air India. This penalty has been imposed for violating norms related to limiting flight service duration and fatigue management system for the crew. DGCA had conducted an on-the-spot audit of Air India in January. This decision has been taken on the basis of evidence collected during this period. The regulator said in a statement that analysis of reports and evidence revealed that Air India Limited had flown with both crew members, in some cases, above 60 years of age. According to the statement, the airline failed to provide its crew with adequate weekly rest and adequate rest before and after long flights.

Notice was issued on March 1

A show cause notice was given to Air India by the Directorate General of Civil Aviation on March 1, 2024. However, Air India did not give a satisfactory reply to DGCA in the matter. Let us tell you that in January this year, DGCA had changed the rules related to flight duty time for flight crew. In this, weekly leave was increased to 48 hours and night hours were increased by two hours. Changes in these rules were made on the basis of discussions with airline operators, pilot associations etc.

What is the current rule

DGCA has increased the weekly leave of flight crew, including pilots, from 36 hours to 48 hours. Along with this, by changing the definition of night, now the time from 12 midnight to 6 am will be counted as night duty. Before January, work till 5 in the morning was counted as night duty.
