Air in Delhi is ‘poisonous’, Kejriwal government closes schools

The air in the country’s capital Delhi is continuously becoming poisonous. Toxic haze was seen in Delhi for the sixth consecutive day on Sunday. The air quality index (AQI) has reached the ‘very severe’ category. Meanwhile, Delhi Education Minister Atishi said on Sunday that due to increasing pollution in Delhi, primary schools will remain closed till November 10. He said that in view of increasing pollution, online classes can be taken for school students from class 6th to 12th.

In Delhi, AQI was recorded at 415 at 4 pm on Saturday, which deteriorated further and reached 460 at 7 am on Sunday. There is a thick layer of pollutants in Delhi due to which people are facing problems. According to the Central Pollution Control Board (CPCB), there is no hope of relief from poisonous air till November 7.

Air quality in ‘hazardous’ category

The air quality in some areas of Delhi has reached ‘hazardous’ category, with the highest AQI of 633 recorded in Wazirpur. Some concrete measures can be taken regarding the deteriorating air quality. After a gradual decline in the temperature in Delhi-NCR since last week, the presence of calm air aiding pollution and stubble burning in Punjab and Haryana, the air quality has reached very poor category.

What measures are taken in the fourth step?

After air quality reaches the fourth stage, many measures are taken. This includes a complete ban on the entry of trucks in Delhi, stopping construction activities including projects like highways and roads in Delhi, ban on operation of diesel-powered vehicles and heavy goods vehicles in Delhi and ban on light vehicles.
