Notice to vehicle owner through SMS

These AI powered special cameras capture the number plate of the vehicle and cross-check it with its database. If any vehicle is captured by these cameras without a valid PUC, the owner of that vehicle will be issued a notice through SMS by the Delhi Transport Department. At present, the department is sending notices to violators only through SMS. At the same time, the work of creating e-challans and sending them directly to those owners is also going on.

Testing of AI-powered cameras

As a pilot project, the Delhi government has been testing AI-powered cameras at four locations in Delhi for the last two months, including Model Town, Shastri Nagar, Mall Road and Shahdara. These special cameras have been fitted at a total of four petrol pumps in these areas. According to a Times of India report, these cameras revealed that 15-20 percent of the vehicles coming to the pumps did not have a valid PUC.

How does this technology work?

This camera installed on the petrol pump captures a continuous image sequence. After this, its artificial intelligence technology prepares small frames and detects the density of air particulate matter in them. The smoke emitted from the vehicle has high density of particulate matter, the camera takes the picture of its number plate and searches its details in its server to find out its owner. After this the government department makes arrangements to send a notice or challan to the address of its owner.
