Agra. Shailesh of Agra had lost his eyesight 12 years ago due to which his life had become dark. For this, Shailesh got himself treated in various hospitals including AIIMS but to no avail. On the advice of a doctor from Agra, Shailesh reached SN Medical College and met Doctor Shefali. After this, his treatment continued for about one and a half years and today Shailesh can see every color of the world with his eyes. Shailesh, a resident of Kyeri village of Pinahat block of Agra, suddenly lost his eyesight 12 years ago. He had Limb Stem Cell Deficiency disease in his eyes. Which is also called nail. The financial condition of Shailesh, a farmer, was bad. Because of which he was not able to get himself treated in good hospitals. 38 year old Shailesh’s life was plunged into darkness and his business failed.

Shailesh went to AIIMS, Delhi for treatment of his eyes and was treated for 2 months but he did not get any benefit. Apart from this, he also got himself treated in many other hospitals but there was no difference. On the advice of a doctor from Agra, Shailesh reached SN Medical College and told his problem to Dr. Shefali Majumdar, in-charge of Eye Bank. After this, Dr. Shefali started his treatment. Dr. Shefali told that limbal stem cell deficiency disease is treated by limbal stem cell transplant. For this, limbal stem cells from the healthy eye of a blood relative are transplanted with cells from the other eye to replenish the ocular surface epithelium. This surgery is very delicate and this is the first such surgery in SN Medical College which has been successful. Till now this surgery was done only abroad.

Dr. Shefali told that to repair Shailesh’s eye, eye tissue from one of his blood relatives was needed. But when his brothers were talked to, they refused. After which Shailesh was told that your child’s eye tissue can also be useful. But Shailesh refused for the child. Ultimately his wife was counseled and Shailesh’s eyes were corrected by taking his wife’s eye tissue. 38 year old Shailesh is now seeing the world through his own eyes after 12 years. There was darkness in his life 12 years ago. But now once again there is light in his life. Shailesh says that all this has happened because of the team of Eye Department of SN Medical College and Dr. Shefali Majumdar who is no less than a God for me.
