Distance Learning: Now students of institutions offering education through open and distance learning mode, where four-year undergraduate course will be implemented, can now take admission in regular universities in the second year. IGNOU will start four-year undergraduate degree from January 2024 session. On the lines of other regular universities, IGNOU will also provide students with the facility of multidisciplinary studies and multiple entry-exit.

Start of courses in these subjects

The university will start it in dance, music, theatre, computer, translation, radio, television writing courses in vocational courses, because the university has the setup for it. The Ministry of Skill Development and Entrepreneurship will help in this under the guidelines of UGC. UGC has directed all universities to implement the new education policy 2020 in the academic session 2023-24.

IGNOU starts four-year degree program from January 2024 session

Under this, IGNOU will start a four-year degree program from January 2024 session. After one year of study, first year students of IGNOU will be able to continue their studies from any regular university of the country. Along with this, students taking admission in distance learning mode can, for the first time, get their degree from a regular university on the basis of excellent performance in vocational courses. Regional Director of IGNOU, Dr. Abhilash Nayak said that the four-year undergraduate course will be implemented from the January session. After this, facility of multiple entry and exit will be available.

44 credits will have to be achieved in one year of study

Under the four-year degree programme, initially the study material will be made available in English and Hindi, except for a few subjects, while classes will be taught in Indian languages. IGNOU can start with six to seven languages ​​in the first phase. If a student exits after one year of study, he will be required to study a vocational course of 44 credits. After this he will get a UG certificate of 44 credits on exit. After completing two years of study, you will get UG Diploma of 84 credits and after completing three years of study, you will get BA degree in Major of 120 credits. After this, if any student wants to do Honors, then he will have to study for 40 credits.

It is necessary to acquire six credits of human values, Indian knowledge tradition, culture tradition.

The four-year degree program will be named BA in Major in Humanities, B.Com in Major in Commerce and B.Sc. in Major in Science. The four-year bachelor’s degree will be of 160 credits, while the three-year degree will be of 120 credits. The undergraduate degree will run in major and minor. The main subjects of graduation will be major and other subjects will be considered minor. In this, Major of 60 credits and Minor of 24-24 credits, Elective of 12 credits and only 12 credits will be in vocational. Apart from this, in the first year of graduation, all the students will have to compulsorily study six credits of human values, Indian knowledge tradition, culture tradition etc. Along with B.Sc., the student will also have the freedom to study subjects of his/her choice like History of BA.

60 percent studies of BCA and Library Science in IGNOU will be offline.

Now 60% of the classes in two courses in IGNOU will run in offline mode. Regional Director of IGNOU, Dr. Abhilash Nayak said that there are many such courses in which if there are more than 200 enrollments, 60% of the syllabus is to be taught in offline mode and 40% is to be taught in online mode. Under this rule, currently 60% of BCA and Library Science studies will be offline. The syllabus has been divided accordingly. Offline classes will run in the regional office.
