The indefinite protest by party workers led by Trinamool Congress leader Abhishek Banerjee outside the Raj Bhavan against the Center’s alleged withholding of Mahatma Gandhi National Rural Employment Guarantee Act (MNREGA) dues of West Bengal continued on Friday.

He has called for continuing the protest until Governor CV Anand Bose meets the delegation. After taking stock of the flood affected areas of North Bengal, Bose left for Delhi on Thursday evening.

Thousands of TMC officials and top leadership marched to the British-era Raj Bhavan on Thursday in protest against the alleged withholding of MNREGA dues of West Bengal by the Centre, after which the party’s national general secretary Banerjee started the protest.

Banerjee, Lok Sabha MP from Diamond Harbor, remained at the protest site throughout the night. He said, I will stay here and will not move even an inch until the Honorable Governor meets our delegation and answers these two questions.

He wrote on the social media platform ‘X’, after raising our voice in Delhi, we demand justice from the landlords of BJP. How long will it take for the self-proclaimed guardians of democracy to answer to the people? How long will you keep running away from people?

Hundreds of party workers remained standing at the protest site. Thousands of party workers from different parts of the state reached the spot since Friday morning and expressed solidarity with the protest.

Before this protest, the party had also demonstrated for two days in New Delhi on the issues related to MNREGA dues and housing schemes for poor families.

Reacting to TMC’s protest, senior Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) leader Subhendu Adhikari said that the party is trying to destroy the Constitution in the state.

Leader of opposition in West Bengal Assembly, Subhendu Adhikari said that TMC has cast its evil eye on the constitutional authority. The Governor’s security is being put in danger for cheap political gimmicks.
