In this context, Abhishek’s lawyer Sanjay Basu said, “The plaintiff is an MP. He is contesting from Diamond Harbor constituency in the upcoming Lok Sabha elections. Abhishek and his wife Rujira Narula Bandyopadhyay are cooperating with the investigating agency. Additional Solicitor General SV Raju, who appeared on behalf of the ED in the court, accepted the case. He also said that after March 2022, the ED did not summon Abhishek in this case. After September of the same year, Rujira was also booked in the coal smuggling case. Was not summoned. Therefore, the investigating agency is in no hurry to summon those two people.

ED has interrogated Abhishek and his wife Rujira in several rounds in the coal smuggling case. Earlier, both of them were called to Delhi for questioning in this regard. But Abhishek Banerjee and his wife appealed in the Supreme Court against the ED action. He said in the application that he should be interrogated in Kolkata. On May 17, 2022, the Supreme Court had given its verdict in favor of Abhishek in that case also. The apex court ordered the interrogation of the Trinamool MP and his wife in Kolkata instead of Delhi. But it also said that the state police and administration should ensure that ED officials in Kolkata do not face any harassment during the interrogation of Abhishek-Rujira.
