Recently EPFO ​​i.e. Employees Provident Fund Organization has removed Aadhaar from the list of acceptable documents for proof of date of birth (DoB). In a circular number (WSU/2024/1/UIDAI Matter/4090) issued on January 16, the employment body has said that the decision has been taken following a direction from the Unique Identification Authority of India (UIDAI).

Let us tell you that EPFO ​​has said. “Aadhaar has been removed from the list of documents acceptable as date of birth proof. A letter in this regard has been received from UIDAI (copy attached), stating that the use of Aadhaar as proof of date of birth needs to be removed from the list of acceptable documents. Accordingly, Aadhaar is being removed from the list of acceptable documents for correction in date of birth, as mentioned in Table-B of Annexure-1 of the JD SOP under reference,” the EPFO ​​circular dated January 16, 2024, said. ” Earlier, UIDAI had also said that many organizations like EPFO ​​have been considering Aadhaar as a valid document to confirm the date of birth. However, UIDAI has made it clear that although Aadhaar serves as a unique identity proof, it is not considered a valid proof of date of birth as per the Aadhaar Act, 2016.

The UIDAI circular, which cited the Aadhaar Act of 2016 and the rules governing enrollment processes, made it clear that Aadhaar is not a valid proof of date of birth. Let us tell you that this detail has been clearly stated in the office memorandum issued on December 20, 2018. A recent decision of the Bombay High Court has made it clear that Aadhaar cannot be accepted as proof of birth.

These proofs are valid for EPFO

  1. Birth certificate issued by the Registrar of Births and Deaths

  2. Marksheet issued by a recognized government board or university

  3. School Leaving Certificate (SLC)/School Transfer Certificate (TC)/SSC Certificate containing name and date of birth

  4. Certificate based on service record

  5. PAN card

  6. Central/State Pension Payment Order

  7. Residence certificate issued by government

Let us tell you that in the absence of proof of the above date of birth, the medical certificate issued by the Civil Surgeon after the medical examination of the member and the affidavit on oath duly certified by the competent court of the member will also be valid for Date of Birth (DOB).
