Lights have their own significance in Diwali. This is a festival of lights. It was said that there was a time when earthen lamps were in vogue. People used to buy earthen lamps extensively. But now it has reduced.
Customers have started living in a world of glitz. Instead of lighting earthen lamps, they are using Chinese lights. In such a situation the potter’s back is breaking. In Navagachia, a dozen potters are making many items including earthen lamps, kalash, Chaumunhi etc.
As Diwali approaches, the potters have increased the speed of the wheel. But this is troubling. Because the sales and earnings of their lamps have become much less than before. Potter says that earlier people used to buy 100 lamps, now they are buying 25 lamps.
Due to this the income is decreasing. Most of the people are now lighting their houses using Chinese lights. Potters work from four in the morning till night, but they do not earn enough to run the house properly. The condition of potters here is pathetic. However, there is a need for people to be aware of the importance of earthen lamps and to illuminate their homes with earthen lamps.
The potter tells that we are preparing the lamps by working very hard. Even after preparation, we are not getting benefit. They have to buy and bring soil. There is no profit even after working hard.
Their sales have reduced due to Chinese goods. According to them, Chinese goods should be stopped. People should not buy Chinese goods, buy only earthen goods. Because it is pure.

Women are also seen continuously shopping in the markets. People are busy preparing for Diwali.
