98 Left Wing Extremists surrendered in Bihar in 9 years, 42 got the benefit of rehabilitation

Patna. So far 98 leftists have surrendered under the Surrender-cum-Rehabilitation Scheme being run in Bihar since 2013 regarding the surrender and rehabilitation of Left Wing Extremists. The State Level Surrender-cum-Rehabilitation Committee has approved the benefit of rehabilitation scheme to 42 of them. At the same time, to give the benefit of rehabilitation to 30 leftists, action is under process at the level of district level screening committee constituted under the chairmanship of DM. Along with this, the benefits of seven surrendered left wing extremists have been rejected due to their suspicious activities.

Arrangement to give Rs 2.5 lakh on surrender

ADG (Headquarters) of Bihar Police Jitendra Singh Gangwar said that the objective of this scheme is to help those Naxalites who want to give up violence and join the mainstream of the society. In the scheme, there is a provision to give Rs.5 lakh on the surrender of high-grade Naxalites and Rs.2.5 lakh on the surrender of other category of Naxalites. There is a provision to give different incentives on surrender of different types of weapons. He told that under the scheme, the eligible persons will initially stay in the rehabilitation center, where they will be given training in various trades according to their interest and ability. During this period, an allowance of Rs 6,000 per month will be payable to them for a maximum period of three years. In order to provide vocational training to the surrendered Left Wing Extremists, separate relaxation is given in the qualification required for admission in ITI. Arrangements have also been made for Pre-ITI course. For this, nine ITIs and 11 skill development centers have been identified in the state.

Number of Naxal affected districts reduced by half

ADG Headquarters told that from 2012 to 2018, 22 districts of the state were Naxal affected, whose number has reduced to 16 first and then from July 2021 till now only 10. SRE i.e. Security Related Expenditure scheme is going on in these ten districts. According to the statistics of the headquarters, from April 2004 to April 2012, only 14 districts of the state were Naxal affected. He informed that a total of 279 Naxalites have surrendered from 2006 to February 2021, who are being benefited under the rehabilitation scheme. In 2016, during the district level rowing, swimming and water sports competition in Sheohar district, 17 Left Wing Extremists had surrendered on the condition of no benefit.
