Following the attack, the Indian Army has launched several special forces teams with drones and surveillance helicopters which are conducting search and destroy operations in the suspected area. Security forces including the army, police and intelligence agencies are coordinating the operations.

Defense sources have been quoted as saying that Army and security agencies have received information about the presence of 6 to 7 terrorists operating in two groups near the area in Rajouri-Poonch sector where the incident took place yesterday. This group was involved in ambushing an Indian Army vehicle in Poonch sector yesterday in which 5 soldiers were martyred.

According to defense sources, the terrorists are suspected to be of Lashkar and of Pakistan. The investigation team is trying to find out about the way the terrorists entered the area. There are many cave-type natural formations being explored extensively in that area.
