Mobile customers using 5G services in India are using mobile data 3.6 times more than 4G customers. This information has been given in a report of telecommunication equipment manufacturing company Nokia.

5G services in the country were started in October 2022. Nokia’s ‘Mobile Broadband Index’ report released on Wednesday states that 5G will contribute 15 percent to the total data traffic in 2023. According to the report, in 2023, users consumed 17.4 exabytes per month.

Compared to the last five years, the annual growth of data usage has been 26 percent. One exabyte is equal to one billion gigabytes (GB). The report says that 5G has played the role of a catalyst in the increase in data usage in the country. The share of 5G in the total data traffic in 2023 was 15 percent.

The ecosystem of 5G equipment is growing rapidly in the country. Out of the total active 794 million 4G devices, 17 percent i.e. 134 million are now 5G capable. Amit Marwah, head of marketing and corporate affairs, Nokia India, said data consumption in India has increased by 20 percent year-on-year to 17.4 exabytes per month. This is among the highest data consumption in the world. On an average an individual customer is consuming 24 GB data per month.
