2,87,129 posts are vacant in government departments of Jharkhand, only 38% personnel are working against the sanctioned posts.

Vivek Chandra, Ranchi:

There is a huge shortage of personnel in the government departments of Jharkhand. Nearly three lakh posts are vacant in the departments. Against the sanctioned posts, employees are working only on 38.44% posts. The total number of sanctioned posts in various departments of the state government is 4,66,494. Against this, employees are working only on 1,79,365 posts. The remaining 2,87,129 posts are lying vacant.

One lakh posts can be filled by timely promotion:

Vacancies in posts have a direct impact on the work of the state government. Due to large number of posts remaining vacant, the movement of files becomes slow. Due to which the pace of development works slows down. As per rules, direct appointment is not made to 25% of the total sanctioned posts of the departments. Those posts are filled through promotion. According to this formula, if the process of appointment to vacant posts is started by providing timely promotions to state government officials and employees, then more than one lakh posts can be filled. It is noteworthy here that at present, the state government spends about Rs 16,000 crore annually on the salaries and allowances of its regular employees. After giving promotions to the employees, the said amount is estimated to increase by about eight thousand crores.

Two lakh can be appointed on vacant posts in three departments:

Among the state government departments, the highest number of vacant posts are in the education department. More than 1.25 lakh posts are lying vacant in primary and secondary education. At the same time, a large number of posts are lying vacant in the Health and Home Department. More than two lakh people can get employment on vacant posts in these three departments alone. The best position in terms of vacancies is in the Energy Department. There is not a single vacant post against the sanctioned posts in the Energy Department. In all the remaining departments, less personnel are employed than the sanctioned workforce.
