205 newly elected MLAs in Madhya Pradesh are millionaires, BJP MLA tops with assets worth Rs 296 crore.

According to the report of ‘Association for Democratic Reforms’ (ADR), BJP’s Sanjay Satyendra Pathak (Vijayraghavgarh) is in second place with assets worth Rs 242 crore. It said that the number of MLAs having assets worth more than Rs 1 crore increased from 187 in 2018 to 205 in 2023. Of these, 144 are from BJP and 61 from Congress. In the Madhya Pradesh Assembly elections, BJP won 163 seats this time compared to 109 seats in 2018, while Congress was reduced to 66 this time compared to 114 seats won in 2018. Apart from this, Bharat Adivasi Party was successful in winning one seat.

The report said that among the two other candidates with the least assets, BJP’s Santosh Varkade (Sihora) has total assets of Rs 25 lakh and BJP’s Kanchan Mukesh Tanve (Khandwa) has total assets of Rs 26 lakh. The ADR said that among the candidates with the highest liabilities, former BJP minister Surendra Patwa (Bhojpur) leads with a debt of Rs 57 crore, Congress’s Dinesh Jain (Mahidpur) comes second with Rs 30 crore and BJP’s Bhupendra Singh ( Khurai) is in third place with a loan of Rs 23 crore.

According to the report, out of 205 crorepati MLAs, 102 MLAs have declared assets worth Rs 5 crore and above. At least 71 MLAs have declared assets between Rs 2 crore and Rs 5 crore. Besides, 48 ​​MLAs have declared assets between Rs 50 lakh and Rs 2 crore, while nine of the elected MLAs have assets worth less than Rs 50 lakh. It also said that the average assets of newly elected MLAs are Rs 11.77 crore, which was Rs 10.17 crore in 2018.
